Trauma can happen at any time, at any age, and to anyone, with approximately 70% of Americans experiencing one or more traumatic events in their lifetime. Trauma can be characterized as the mental scars of life-altering events. Some examples of traumatic events include intimate violence, abuse, natural disasters, horrific accidents, and war. Each person processes their trauma differently, some developing signs of acute stress disorder immediately after a traumatic event, while others develop symptoms of trauma later, in the form of post-traumatic stress. Symptoms such as irritability, hostility, hypervigilance, flashbacks, nightmares or unwanted memories of the trauma, social isolation or avoidance of situations that bring back memories, loss of interest in the things they used to like, crippling anxiety, depression mood, and fear can develop and impact a person's day-to-day behaviors.
Depression is a mental health condition that affects how an individual feels, thinks, and behaves. People experiencing depression may display negative feelings such as hopelessness throughout the day and these feelings can last for weeks, months, or even years. Depression can result from a variety of reasons, including a chemical imbalance in the brain, a history of trauma or abuse, genetics, other mental health disorders, and more.
Symptoms of depression may include:
Anxiety disorders are one of the most common types of mental health disorders in the United States, with over 40 million adults in the U.S. having some type of anxiety disorder. Anxiety is a complex response to real or perceived threats resulting in cognitive, physical, and behavioral changes. It is something we all experience, but when it becomes hard to control and affects your day-to-day life, it can be disabling. There are several types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and phobias.
Physical symptoms may include:
ADHD often presents with difficulty concentrating, impulsive behavior, or hyperactivity. People experiencing inattention often report being easily distracted, having difficulty completing a task, losing things, struggling with directions, and becoming bored quickly. Impulsive behavior can look like blurting out inappropriate comments, difficulty waiting for one’s turn, or interrupting other people. Hyperactivity often presents as constantly in motion, restlessness, non-stop talking, or touching everything. We have multiple available treatments that may reduce symptoms and improve functioning. Treatments include medication, psychotherapy, education or training, or a combination of treatments.
Substance use disorder is a condition in which a person develops an inability to control their use of drugs or alcohol. Substances frequently misused include alcohol, marijuana, prescription medicines, such as pain pills, stimulants, or anxiety pills, methamphetamine, cocaine, opiates, hallucinogens, or inhalants. Some of the significant problems seen with substance abuse disorders include missing work or school, using the substance in dangerous situations, substance-related legal problems, and interfering with friendships, family relationships, or both. We strive to help you identify the underlying issues and provide you with the tools you need to stay sober long-term.
Ketamine therapy has emerged as a promising treatment for various mental health disorders. Treatment involves the administration of low-dose ketamine infused intravenously, and can be combined with psychotherapy. Intravenous Ketamine infusion is a treatment option for post-traumatic stress disorder, treatment-resistant depression, bipolar, suicidal ideations, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Ketamine infusions aid in forming new connections between nerve cells in parts of the brain involved in emotion and mood.
